H. 29 mk 3

LCplCombat

MODERATOR/ORDNANCE APPROVED
Ordnance approved
H.29 mk 3 containing 2 H.52 mk 2 tin liners, which in turn contain 9 H 3526 cartons holding 32 "Rounds 7.62 mm Inspection L3A1"

The attached pics show the boxes reconstructed and reopened following the removal of the inspection rounds which were returned to stock. (don't ask me for any, I can't get them)

There are a few interesting points to note:
Pictures no 6 and 7 shows the method of securing the box closed. The 2 split pins enter the hinged metal bar that wraps around the end of the box, and are a tight fit into 2 holes in the metal plate that caps the end of the wooden side. There are strings attached to the split pins which, apart from preventing the loss of the pins when the box is open, are tied together by a second piece of string that loops through 2 staples on the end of the box. This second piece of string needs to be cut to open the box. The lid is secured to the box by another piece of string.

The piece of thick cardboard on the inside of the H.52 tin liner is scored across the circular cutout to enable it to be lifted out easily by pulling on the cloth Becket which is wrapped around the middle carton on the top layer. More pieces of thick cardboard separate each of the cartons within the tin liner.

There is one plywood packing piece, SV 743, which has 3 rubberised pads to cushion against shocks. It is positioned against the outside of the Liner against the outside of the box. One smaller piece slots against the end and the third piece is placed between the liner and the central divider of the box.

There was only one fabric lable but it fell apart before I got to the box. It had IA on it and considering the Head Stamp of the rounds was RG I think IA indicated an Inspectors lable
