New Viet Cong Grenades

While it could be used as a grenade, the large serrated item is actually a MIN mine. It was designed to be fastened to a tree, stake, etc. by the hold on the end of the body and a trip wire attached to the pull cord in the handle to work as an antipersonnel mine. I have two of them and one has the word "MIN" cast right into the body. Bob

Hi Bob,
I know. This is my second also. I was just typing fast. I should have said new Viet Cong MIN mine and stick grenade (maybe chinese stick grenade). These are hard to find. The type with "MIN" cast on the bodies are impossible to find. I have never seen one for sale.
Best,
Mike

That is a very interesting NVA collection website moondoggy. I make special note on the jungle made candlestick holders which are made from French WW1 Citron Foug grenade bodies! That stick is awesome (another fish to fry) and another BOCN member turned me onto a site that had the right one with the eye hole on the end for sale, but was spent out at the time. Nice stuff..... Here is a photo of my two MIN mines. The "MIN" on the lower one is not easy to see. It is vertical on the right end of the grenade body. The casting on that grenade body is much rougher than the other example. Both legit though because I personally brought them back. Unfortunately the end cap on the top one got lost along the way.

All very interesting. But since I don't have an example of either, I'll post what I've got that is relevant to the stick 'nade.
I suspect this 4 cell grenade vest is Chinese. It was advertised as such. A confirmation of that info would be most appreciated. A terp to English, even more so.
It is made of a medium weight canvas. Doesn't appear to be waterproofed. Or smell like it. I would say it is of recent manufacture.
Now comes the hard part. Filling it.

Rick

Thanks for that pic, moondoggy. Are those all authentic and are they identical to each other? What variations are there besides color? Caps, screws/pins, etc. What is a dead give-away that one is a fake?

Rick,

characters 3-7 名 手榴弹 means 'grenade'
'3521' is a factory number (same plant as my AK)

Geert.

MIN mines

I really like the VC MIN mine and it is one way up there on my hit-list of ones to get. I would classify as a boobytrap grenade which fits right in the Viet Cong reputation for such. Truly an interesting piece for a collection...Dano
