Here we have a wooden box which would have held the No 76 AW bomb or SIP grenade. Originally this box would have had wooden partitons inside, but these have long since gone. This is one of three that I found in an old junk shop years ago (the other two were sold/swapped with collector friends at the time) The enamel sign inside the lid details the fragility of these items. I have a spare sign for sale if anyone needs one.
The red/white& green items are solid rubber drill rounds marked on the base "NORTHOVER PROJECTOR DRILL PROJECTILE" and were made by a company called the Bisley Clay Target Co. These drill rounds could also be thrown by hand.
The glass bottle is a rare early thin glass, hand thrown version of the No 76 grenade, produced before the production of the Northover, and these bottles varied slightly in shape and size. Later production grenades were made of thicker glass and were of uniform shape to enable them to be fired from the Northover.
