The no76 is a self igniting phosphorous grenade, developed for use by the Home Guard it was either thrown by hand or used with athe Northover projector.
Basically its a glass bottle filled with phosphorous
Markings: Red cap for hand throwing version and a green cap for ones launched from the northover projector ,The projector version used a stronger bottle

I cannot imagine how frustrating it must be for MoD staff to put up with the sort of correspondence outlined in the link. A basic bit of research by the enquirer at IWM, National Army Museum, National Archives or even on-line would have found the information.

Time to revise the Freedom of Information Act in my opinion.

The enquirer is clearly a crusader judging from his 92 requests for information under the FoIA. Engaging with such idiots, as the MoD and others are obliged to do under the Act, is fraught with difficulty. Unfortunately idiots have a capacity for bringing anyone down to their level and then beating them with experience.
