Not sure on this cutaway fuze

Not my field at all these modern fuzes.
Found today in a nice little deal up.

When i saw the item last week it had experimental in red lettering accross the top under the cone. Since then the donut who owner it before the deal thought it looked better with it scrubbed off !!!!! Oh well.

Getting back to the matter in hand, im guessing British, poss a 155mm fuze, but thats as far as i can go. I have had a look on the web etc, but have no books on late ordnance, so ive bottomed out.
It has some markings but the number on the nose where they usually are has been cut out as you can see.The Only Part number from the original stamping is 6 MK1.
Other numbers read L3/404 and L3/1041.

Really not my thing, but a nicely done cutaway. Enjoy the pics, hopefully one of you kind people could id it.

Once upon a time I had a 4.5" illuminating projectile, it had fitted a dummy fuze, the top part resembled this fuze - so could be off something like a 4.5" shell, my guess also British. But well out of my field of collecting, so will leave identification to someone who knows better.

VT Fuze;

You have a VT fuze, don't know the Mark.

A VT (virtual time) fuze is a proximity fuze,set off by vibration I think!

Its def not a 116. This is similar to a no 206, i think thats the number. Im say def british now. Its like the old time fuzes,ie German ZtZS/30, but longer.

Just noticed the increments on the fuze body.

What's the part of the number left after cutting,next to the MK1,looks like either a 5 or a 6?

May help to narrow it down?

Just a thought,if it was experimental,maybe it wasn't brought into use,so presumably,there wouldn't be much info out there?

Well it def had it written on the side, thats why i put it to one side when i first saw it.
The top section of the fuze is familiar to me, but cant for the life of me remember what it was, and to make matters worse, i sold it ages ago. It was mechanical, but the top from above the main threads was fairly similar. what the hell was it ??? lol. My memory is terrible.If it had of been German i would have remembered.:tinysmile_angry2_t:
 
I tell you what mate, that looks identical. Maybe im correct with the experimental aspect? My one ends in a 6 and is a MK1. It could have been re-numbered after testing????
Could be a very interesting piece.

Probably N6 Mk 1 (ie Naval), made by The Gramophone Co, Springfield Road, Hayes, Middlesex. TGCo was better known as EMI, later Thorn-EMI. Dates from late 60s/early 70s I would say.
