3" M42 AA with VT Fuse Complete round

    For our US Buddies:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/113595688074?ul_noapp=true

I have the VT fuse itself but have never seen it on a complete original WW2 period round before.

Appears the person "cleaned" away the original (?) paint to inspect the projectile markings!!!!! (Arrghhhh!!!)

    Good Luck!

    Cheers
    Drew

There are a number of problems with this combination. The red color is U.S. Navy for Blind loaded and plugged. If it was a red Army projectile, it would have been a shrapnel projectile. An original M42 would most likely have been Yellow with black lettering or OD green with yellow lettering. Proximity fuzes weren't issued in quantity till the end of the war when all M42 projectiles would have been used up and M42A1 projectiles would have been issued, but the prox fuzes were usually issued to larger diameter projectiles like the 90mm AAA. This Proximity fuze "replica" consists of the plastic top of a real proximity fuze and the bottom of a modern M577 Mechanical time fuze. The cartridge case was made in 43 before proximity fuzes were issued in quantity.

The word Fakery comes to mind.

    Thanks Hazard,

Great spots! (should have looked a little closer re the VT Fuse)

    Perhaps re-titled to "Fake Alert"

Interesting enough the Seller has a number of other related items for sale...............all items supposed to be from a decease estate of an "old artillery officer"......

I'll just keep to the underwater stuff..............................
