Semi-Rimmed 1.59in Crayford Round - 1918.

Bit of an odd one here, a 1918 semi-rimmed 1.59in Crayford Common Pointed round. Dimensions as per a standard Crayford round but case is semi-rimmed not rimmed. The base of the projectile is still crimped into the case. 1918 dated and no Lot number. Any information appreciated...

So, the change to semi-rimmed was presumably to make it more suitable for use in an automatic gun. Anyone know anything about it?

I am reminded of the 1 pdr COW gun round, which (IIRC) was basically a rimless version of the standard Maxim pom-pom round (dropped in favour of the 1.5 pdr)
