18-pounder Shrapnel manufacture

For those interested in such, I attach a couple of images of WWI 18-pr Shrapnel shell production at a West of England shell factory. The first shows the bottling furnace and neck presses, whereby the neck of the shell is heated and pressed (bottled) to entrap the Shrapnel pusher plate and charge tin. The second is a general view of one of the assembly shops with various interesting details - there are boxes of central tubes and fuze adapters at right.

(The images are substantially cropped and compressed but hopefully detail is still clear enough to show what is going on.)
