QF 13 Pounder shrapnel shells

Couldn’t resist showing off the latest acquisitions. Bumped into these en route home from a family outing. The price would have been excellent for one, but it was superb for two. :tinysmile_twink_t2: There’s some pitting, but overall I think I’ll merely give them a repaint as the machining marks and all important body stampings are still quite clear. I’d guess they were recovered relatively soon after being fired. I have 13PR field and 9cwt AA gun cases they can go in. As regards fuzes, what would be correct for these other than the No.80?

Thank you. Yes, I restored another 13PR shrapnel some years ago, but that was a dug up and needed copious amounts of filler and paint to be presentable. I’ve also made the very pleasing discovery that there’s very little distortion to the necks and an adaptor ring will screw in correctly.

I’m going to strip them back to bare metal and then decide how far to restore. I may even leave it at that if the pitting doesn’t bother me too much.

Now fully cleaned up and for fun I’ve done some case and fuze variations. I can’t do them both together as complete rounds as I only have one loose fuze adaptor ring. (Hint, hint...)

I guess these shrapnel projectiles were used in both field gun and AA guns. They turned out very well when cleaned. Well done.
