any help/ideas greatly appreciated.

They look like the ones for one of the British WW1 1st WW fuzes that had a distinct dome shape . Can't remember the number but may have been used on a TM ? Siegfreid.

Richard, I think Siegfried has homed in on the answer with a Trench Mortar fuze. Your covers are a very similar shape to the No. 28 (Sutton's Fuze) and its successor the No. 79. Picture attached. Depotman.

Whoops! I should have looked at the dia. although I don't have a No 28 or 79 in my collection! Depotman

Thanks for that, I was thinking something along the lines of a 2 pdr or US 37mm, but the TM's profile is very similar even if it is to big. Thanks for your help most appreciated.

I am not familiar with 40 mm grenade-launcher ammo but could they be from that?
