    Help ID two items

I have been asked by an EOD unit to help ID the following items. The first two pictures I believe show a fuze converted to a plug. I seem to recall the the cross cut was an indication of this can anyone confirm this theory?

The second two pictures show a partially exploded shell with a Gaine, can anyone provide more details?

    Thanks in advance.

Second item - 3.7" Gun?, HE, fitted No. 11 Mk II Gaine, Manufactured by M&R (not known to me) Filled RY - ROF Risley, with Lead Azide detonator (the presence of which should have dictated its fate).

I think the cross's mean obsolete fuze and not plug

Thanks for the replies. Christian does this mean that the fuze could still contain live components?

The fuzes i've found on shells are all live and contain HE composition inside (for example in a N°45 fitted on 4 in shell)

    Tim,

Does the 7 at the end of the RY provide the Lead Azide indicator?

    Joe,

No, the 7 is part of the filling date 7/41 - July 41.

It's the 'Z' but this should follow the Mark number. However due to the proximity of the makers stamp, it's a bit tight for space there. Furthermore, the practice should have stopped in October 1940.
