German 2cm Panzergranate 40

One of the projects for the bench this summer a German 2cm Panzergranate 40 (I think, if anyone can correct me please do ). I think this will end up with a quarter section taken out of it .Head stamped asb ,42 ,with a little eagle

Hmm, I'm quite possibly going senile, but it doesnt look quite right to me....

Ignoring the Üb version, which doesn't have a core, the other four variants (I am aware of so far) all had aluminium noses, and three of the four had aluminium bodies (See Photo 1 - Ignore Rightmost projectile, the 4th variant is similar to the 3rd from left, but shorter). The first variant (and hardest to find) had a steel body like yours, (see photo 2), but the cannelure was a very different shape to the one in your photo.

Can you confirm the body is definitely steel as it looks in your photo?
Can you also weigh the projectile?

I would have to agree with Richard, German Hartkernen were for the larger part Alu bodied. Cores wouldn't rust.
This might be a 20mm SHVAK projectile.

Thanks for the the replies ,it weighs in at 88 grams and is definitely made of steel,I saw it and bought it because it look a bit out of the ordinary

I agree, thanks for that as I had a similar projectile wrongly allocated too!

A couple of earlier members pictures from the forum, thanks guys.

The SHVAK 20mm also has a slightly differing profile to the driving band compared to the German 20 x 138mm.

Picking up on pzgr40/42s comment, is the cor of your projectile steel also?. It certainly looks somewhat corroded!

The picture of pysalls Shvak, has a Tungsten core, so were there Shvak projectiles with steel bodies and steel cores?
