I was gong through my dead in-laws' wedding album, which also contained their honeymoon. It looked like they stopped in Washington,D.C. at a time of a French President's visit and a military parade in his honour. There was a newspaper clipping describing this event. So, US had military parades in 1950's. Also, look at reverse side of this newspaper. There is a small but ominous news article in the upper left corner.
