Can anyone ID this case please. 37 x 268 x 45R and these dimensions are to the nearest MM. Sorry, but the picture will not rotate.

Thanks

Not sure but could be a Czech case made by Jiri Roth, Bratislavski,Czech. ref. Mellichamp Vol 2 page 628).
Maybe a Pak 34 ? Interesting headstamp with reloading dots.

Too old for a Pak34. I know several case types were delivered to Italy in this period (37 mm M15, 47 mm L/44 from my own collection). The mentioned dimensions do not exist in my rather extensive library, so I would love to see the rest of the case.

I was thinking of the German 3.7cm PaK L/45 that was introduced in 1924 and issued in 1928?. Not sure if Czech made cases for this.
Also the rim seems 2mm smaller so I also am not sure what it is. I leave this ID to the experts.

I consider myself an expert on the subject of cases ;-). This one is intriguing, if the measurements are correct it might be something I have never seen before. Which would be great!

Thanks to all for the comments which have been most helpful. I have added three more pictures below.

I have now had a chance to measure the case with a vernier gauge and the rim measurement is 48mm. The neck is not completely round but the neck definitely measures 37mm. The top of the case from approximately 3cm below the rim is very slightly necked which can be seen from the reflection of the squares on the case itself. I have put this case along side the vz 34 and they are the same.

I have concluded so far (referring to Melichamp's book - thanks Ron) that it is probably the Czech (Jiri Roth) predecessor to the vz 34 which was tested in the 20's as an infantry cannon with its case design being more WW1 based. The reloading marks certainly look German but I am not familiar with the "German 3.7cm PaK L/45 that was introduced in 1924" as mentioned by Ron.

Any further thoughts greatly appreciated.

I am also not familiar with the early horse-drawn PaK but this was on Wikipedia if you believe it.

Sound like the most likely explanation to me. Very nice! You say it is the same as a 3,7 cm vz34, but that case has a 48 mm rim and in the first post you say 45 mm. What is the rim diameter of this case?

There was also a 3,7 cm Infanterie-Geschütz L/50 from Solothurn. Unfortunatly I have no dimensions of the shell case nor a date when it was produced. I think the factory brochure was from the mid 1930’s.

Unfortunately I typed a '5' instead of an '8' in my first post ...sorry. It is definitely 48mm rim diameter.
