I found this picture on the web.
Diameter 90mm, length 10in, stamped broad arrow 10/73.
What is the designation of this shell (I assume shrapnel) ?

I looked at that this morning but discounted it because it was too short, but it is the closest I have seen and that publication is for both naval and land service ammunition.

It looks to have the dimensions of a 16pr RML Shrapnel: length 10-in, calibre 3.54-in.

The attached plate is from the 1900-dated "Handbook for the 16pr RML gun of 12cwt".
