Here, one of our ancestors really loved stamping (and he used a nice font) ... "Bl" (blind) means inert filled - contained just lead balls and scrap to simulate weight.

What is the significance of the arrow? (obviously not the British Broad Arrow)

...it means "inert". Very common on german shells until end of WW2

Interesting - so did the British adapt to the use of the "Broad Arrow" in order to trick the Germans into thinking the British ammo was "inert" :tinysmile_twink_t2:

or vice versa..............
