Smoke Discharger Grenade.

I can find no information about this inert smoke discharger grenade.
I need the model, country of manufacture and what tank or vehicles used this item.
It looks Russian but the letters spell IRV (Czech?)

It is 80mm diameter, 60mm base and 210mm long. Weight is 2.238kg.
The base screws off and shows pins and where primer/igniters fit.

Smoke D Grenade

I think this was used all over the WP and maybe still is.
By the Russian files it is 81 mm

Regards,

Chris
PS still a lot of gold in Ballarat

Hi,

ИНЕРТ stand for INERT.
Seems to be an inert (training ?) version of the Russian ZD6 (ЗД6) shown by Chris.
Not mentionned in "ТО и ИЭ 81-мм дымовая граната 3Д6" book.

Cheers,

S.

This example was probably manufactured in Czechoslovakia. During the 80s, several standards were enacted regarding a standardized marking system of ordnance within WP countries (think of an equivalent to STANAG). For example, only Cyrillic letters were to be used. From what I have seen so far, Czechoslovakia quite quickly adapted the new system and by the late 80s, many of it's ordnance items were already marked according to the Soviet system. Due to the collapse of the WTO and the COMECON, most countries did not transition (fully) to the new standards, however.

I put a Russian book about the ZD-6 in the download section

Regards,

Chris
