    M24 Stielhandgranate Head

As mentioned in the ‘Wanted’ section. I spotted it on a dealer website (misidentified as WWI) and a quick google suggested the price was very keen, so I grabbed it. A previous owner had ‘restored’ it with a thick layer of pale grey paint which I have been cleaning off.

Not very pretty at present, but it’s solid, mostly un-dented and the threads seem to be fine. The first thing I shall do is fill in the holes with metal epoxy. I also have semi-relic but hopefully restorable examples of a threaded cap, rain-shield and safety cap on their way from Mother Russia + a repro handle. I still need a threaded ring for the safety cap.

The first set of components for restoration have arrived and will shortly be off for an acid dip.

Some further progress. I did some reinforcing in the interior with epoxy and aluminium mesh and then covered the exterior with car body filler. The result after an initial sand down. So far, so good.

Further progress. I managed to turn this rusty lump into a collection of solid and usable M24 Stielhandgranate parts. I’m still in need of a safety cap and the threaded ring for same.
