Hello,
Does anyone know what is this spherical projectile ?
Never seen before but seems to be French as other stuff are early french trench mortar projos.
Seems to be made of sheet metal.
Regards

Looks a bit like the German Army Zeppelin bomb, ie not the tear drop shaped Carbonit egs that we are more familiar with, but the version designed and approved for service by the Army Pruf.... whatever the establishment is called. Fleischer has some detail, but not much, nor does he illustrate egs, tho' the Carbonits in various sizes are shown. Note the stick grenade on top of the cylindrical object in front of the soldier. Having said that, the fuze hole seems a bit small.

Almost looks like a couple of Stokes bombs no fuze, livens projectiles and Toffee apples (Gas?) with the 2" stem off ?

These balls seem to be made with two half spheres in sheet metal. Nothing similar known with such a size.
