Midsomer Murders (!)

This week's episode (The Miniature Murders) improbably included details of some handguns and ammunition in this very unrealistic "cozy crime" series.

A feature of the opening murder (they always have several in each episode - the sleepy villages around Midsomer being the the most dangerous places in the country) is the use of a bullet with a wooden core. It was referred to as having a large calibre (later mentioned as 11mm) so they were clearly referring to the Schouboe, although they gave it a different name which I didn't catch, and also said it was Swedish instead of Danish. The gun they showed was a Luger with a suppressor attached...

They later showed and correctly identified a P38.

Worth a few marks for trying, but more education required...

"This story is a fiction, the words given to the characters, these characters themselves, and the places where they are described are partly real, partly imaginary. Neither themselves nor the facts evoked can therefore be exactly reduced to existing or having existed persons or events, at the places cited or elsewhere, or testify to a reality or a judgment on these facts, these persons and places."

All in good fun , the body count and the unusual means of death are more important - They seem to take pride in
being the least authentic crime series ~ Death in paradise is even lighter and the worst is "Rosemary & Thyme.
Others are very gritty and one needs something lighter once in a while.

When it comes to "cozy crime", a recent BBC series well worth catching up with is The Mallorca Files. This is like a combination of Death in Paradise and Dempsey & Makepiece (remember that?) with a couple of detectives (German man, British woman) being paired up to solve crimes involving foreigners on the island of Mallorca.
Most episodes are very funny, some a bit darker, but they are all entertaining.
