Hello,
Interesting german made case rolled up sheet metal stamped 12.2cm sFH 396 (r) for russian captured gun.
What kind of german made shell for this case ?
Shells I know (see pictures) are described for gun 390/1 (r) and 390/2 (r). Same shells for 396 (r) ?
Regards
Well the difference is quite different than this. The 12,2cm leFH 388 (r) is the variant of the sFH 396 (r) , the 388 (r) has a shorter case. The one u show , is definitely for the sFH 396 , as it reads. And uses the following shell :
And some other drawings (on Russian ammunition for the leFH 388 (r) & sFH 396 (r) ) :
Here also the case length for the leFH 388 (r) :
And for the sFH 396 (r) :
About the Kanone 390 Ammunition , this is a completely different story. The shells aswell as the case is entirely different & not related to these howitzers. Here some drawings :
Good question though , u had me thinking for a moment. If anyone has any other info , please feel free to share!
Hello MinenAZ16, For the Russian 12,2 guns there was only one German HE shell manufactered. And that is the first one you are showing. Trials with a German made hollow charged projectile were made, but I don’t know if it was issued to the troops.
Regards.
