Unknown box.

Last week I found the remains of a box on a trip to Germany.
I don't know a lot about boxes, does anyone recognize it to a specific type/country?

Dimensions: 21.5x4x10" (55x10x25cm)

Initial thought is a magazine carrier. Knowing the area of the find might help determine ancestry.
