40 m/m Bofors Armour piercing

Picked up a nice 40 m/m Bofors armour piercing/tracer projectile recently...
The paintwork on it is a bit scratchy in places but all the information in stencils is still there.
Dated 1944, it is stamped - SE 14238 ( ^ ), 40 MM IVT, MH/C, P S, 19, 3 - 44.plus crisp inspectors stamps.
It came complete in a 1943 dated case with somewhat faint but still readable head stampings.
When I saw it at first I thought it was a Two Pounder going by the colours!

Minenaz16,
Thats very interesting information concerning the country of origin as well as the definition of the actual shell itself, thanks for that!

Case made by 'EB' - Earle, Bourne & Co Ltd, of Birmingham Rolling and Tube Mills, Heath Street South, Birmingham.

Cr/C is indeed Canadian - Canadian Car Munitions Ltd (Cherrier), but they were a filling factory, the projectile should be stamped with the manufacturer's monogram,

TimG,
Thanks for that additional information!...probably puts this particular one to bed and I can write out the record card completely now!
I shall get the magnifying glass out to look for the monogram!

Having now read what you wrote in the first post, it would appear that the projectile was made by 'MH/C.' I think this might well be Massey-Harris, Toronto, Canada, who at one time were the largest agricultural equipment maker in the British Empire. During WWII they made tanks and the like and certainly had the machinery to make AP projectiles.

Having read this latest post, I shall look into that possible new manufacturer, Thanks.
