Greetings all,
Can someone throw some light on the origin of this cart. with headstamp as pictured. I have seen a few like this but very little to give away the origin?
Thanks in advance.
Regards Ozzi.
Hi Ozziammo, this is French, quite probably made at the Manufacture d'Armes et de Munitions at Issy Les Moulineaux near Paris, very early I guess, 1890-1895... Best Frank
OK thanks Hoeksel
Have remeasured the case ....
Length 330.8 mm
Rim 91.9 mm ..attached photo of stepped rim.
So if it's a Model 1900 then the 99 on base does presumably not refer to year of manufacture
Cheers
I think it does because there was a Mle. 1898 too. My french is really bad or with other words not existant but I think the text says that the Mle. 1898-1900 is an improoved Mle. 1898.
My comment about the headstamp wasn't meant as an ID - just as an observation. On the following drawing the screwed primer is seen on this field gun case so these were used on export cases too. The french naval screwed primers are also a little bit longer.
Thank you Alpini
So now i really think we know what this case was for. Primer is 14mm diameter.
Great information . That is an interesting document you show.
Salut !
