I*
2PR
F-S
VSM
2-6-17

The base is closed by a concave steel plug. This Mk.I* projectile is not shown or mentioned in David Ibbetson's book on British QF ammunition.
Can anyone tell me any more about it? This is the only example I have seen.

Thanks in advance,

Roger.

for what its worth my quick reading of the 1945 Naval handbook on Ammo. section on piercing shell states they are fitted with a copper gas check over the base fuze held in position by a steel cover plate. later on it states C.P, shell were designed for 2pr to 6in powder filled Fuzed Hotchkiss, Nos. 12 or 15 according to cal. Could take a look at fuze No. 293 small base percussion for 2pr SAP from its number its from 1945 but did it have a predecessor? might be a line of research.
