The pictures above show a French 75mm case measuring 144mm in height for the French mountain gun. Can anyone confirm which projectile(s) were used with this case/gun? TIA.

Could be the 145mm case for 75S Schneider (Tank gun or fortification)

It's a modified case 75 DEC (75mm DE Campagne M1897). This gun came after 1879 so this marking is not a year.
Two docs give different length for tank case : 144mm or 145mm.

I am aware of the model 1897, but it is the faint '15' I was referring to after the 1897. Would this be part of the original markings and therefore nothing to do with the repurposed case?

Sorry I did not see the marking 15 on your picture. Yes, it's a bit early and no new markings for repurposed case (?)
But I don't know when this kind of gun were tested. The BS (Blockhaus Schneider) gun came in 1916.
I only have this entry for 144-145mm case.

This one in picture is supposed to be a tank case (144-145) :

This one 75 mm x 165 mm Schneider come from French Maroc occupation "FEZ 1913" stamped on

My reference refers to Blockhaus as 143 mm to make it more unclear.

Obviously my case has not been restamped, whichever gun it was for. Is this unusual? Must have been a little confusing for the chaps on the ground.

@BURNEY DAVIS: 1879 is the lot number of 1915 made by Ateliers de Construction de Rennes, in Brittany. What's weird is that the case was modified and not restamped, it should have been.

I have 3 similar cases, all restamped with "S" which could stand for Schneider, then "6", "13" and "105" that must be the lot number ? and "17" must be the year and "RS" could also stand for Ateliers de Construction de Rennes, since when reloaded there the mark is only RS and not ARS.

@MINENAZ16: to make things more unclear, my 3 cases have different lengths: 1432, 143.5 and 144mm

If I am not mistaken, the 75S Schneider was made to use rejected 75DEC Field Gun projectiles that could have exploded in the barrel when fired with a full charge. Does this mean there was no specific projectile developed? Were the French using shells which were seconds also in the tanks?

Last but not least, how scarce are these cases?

The rejected 75 mm Shells (all designs 1915) unfits for use in artillery gun were used in 75 mm Trench Mle 1915A and could be used as aerial bombs an other trench systems
The case use in Mle 1915 T is different in length (smaller)

Hi doctor, very interesting indeed. What is the case length of the Mle 1915T? What's the difference between Trench Mortar 1915A and T? Thanks

Hi
The lenght case is 8,9 cm, case stamped 75 SCHNEIDER -& Cie
There are simply two designs of platform and weight: 191 and 107 kilos , and only one design barrel tube (12 grooves)
