This chap was sweet on my Grand Mother, it came to nothing.
How ever I have this photograph he sent her. His Canadian records
indicate that he was back in Canada in 1916. So maybe that is when
he transferred to the RFC. The RFC operated training bases in Canada
but records are in the UK. Apparently it cost 30 pounds per inquiry !
Or can a UK resident avoid this onerous cost. If any one can find
out any more I would like to know about him. He did survive
the War my Mother told me. I don't imagine that there were very
many Olaf's in the RFC ~

I have access to Ancestry records and there is no record of him transferring to the RFC. He did survive the war and there is a huge amount of info, including a thigh wound, influenza and Trench Mouth. It looks like he had a son who served in WW2, decorated in the Dieppe raid, but decorated and killed in N. Africa. Regards, Depotman

Seems odd that he is clearly wearing the RFC uniform though - ? Could you email me everything that you turned up ?
The question is , where was he between 1916 and 1918. He could have started RFC training but did not complete it and was
returned to regular service. His picture with the white band on the cap and no wings clearly indicates he was in training.
I once had an Officers WW1 Maternity tunic, the owner turned out to be a volunteer from the U.S.A.
He had crashed in training and never made it to the front.

I'm still not sure about RFC - his picture is not very clear when I download it! I will e-mail you next. Depotman

I think that the National Archives in Kew are still free at the moment. they have stopped the fees on records due to covid.

Hope you can find something.
