WW1 Rod Grenade & Other WW2 MkII (?) from Local Auction

Hi Folks -

Thought I would share this one. It was a local auction, albeit online. I left a bid the night before and found I had won it and several other box lot items I'll post about.

First is the rod grenade and second is one I'm not sure of. It looks like an unfinished MKII. Not threaded at either end, cast with a "C" on one side and a squiggle maybe an incomplete P or R. It came in a metal and fiber container.

Here are some pics.

Thanks for looking!
- Mike

Is the rod welded to the side of the grenade?

Didn't think to take that pic last night, nut here is the base. Har to tell if the rod is welded or threaded. Can't see any threads, but that doesn't mean much. Kind of afraid to try and turn it!

I suspect it's a US smoke grenade from WW1, probably experimental. I've not seen it before. The fuze looks similar to the French F1 from 1915.

Offhand it looks like the standard CN. MKI?

This grenade is shown in D.Lynn book Vol 1A1 on page 44 and has the same small base disc. CN MK11 Rifle Grenade.

Lachrymatory Rifle Grenade, CN, Mk. II, adopted in the 1920's, limited Standard in 1932, obsolete on 13 June, 1935
