Hi,
attached are the pictures of 7,5 cm Sprgr 34 with what seems to be an aluminium adapter with AZ 38 St.
Found on former WW2 range.
I do not remember seeing any written mention of such assembly.
Will try to get X-ray.

Any thoughts?

These also exist with Aluminium AZ38 on german ranges. I don't think that any documents are available. Single adapters were in good condition so it seems the shells had only a very small charge.

An AZ 38 st fuse has a much taller nose section. Was it crushed in on impact?

The steel AZ 38 has a large cap covering tall wooden plunger. Both parts are missing. As the projo flew, probably destroyed on impact. On attached pic you can see how it usualy looks today.

@Alpini - Thanks for the info. Looking forward to the x-ray. After that we will decide on further action.

Yep the cap would have been squished on impact and eventually rusted away. The wooden plunger would have been crushed on impact and eventually rotted away.

Here the long overdue x-ray.
The AZ38 fuze has no detonator. It is fitted with what seems to be a No26 primer (or something of similar size) held in place by a screw.
The fuze adapter is not fully inserted (loosening of fuzes upon impact isn't rare). It has a cavity at the base which seems to be empty. The dimentions of the cavity are similar to klAZ 23Nb.
Under the fuze adapter a gr Zdlg C/98 can be seen. The initiating compound of the detonator is the small dark square.

Any info on this topic is most welcome.

Its maybe done to replace klAz23umg by cheaper Az38 fuzes. They known as Aluminium and Zinc Adapters. 10.5cm where found to with that, they only added another Adapter on it for M50. Shouldnt been a sucess because only less was found

Yes, adapters for klAZ23 series fuzes to 50x3 are known, there was also the adapter for kl AZ 23/28 for the 8,35cm Flak 22(t).
One problem could be the length of the assembly. Visible parts are 75mm long (shorter with aluminium AZ38) compared to 50mm for the regular fuze.

I woukd realy like to read the report from the trials :)
