1905 - 18 pounder

Further to photos of my 1906 dated 18 pounder cartridge, here's an earlier 1905 round I also have. Fuze is dated 1906 though - I've never seen a 1905 dated fuze? Case also has an acceptance date of 22/6/06.

RL fuze, Kynoch shell and VSM case. Primer is an RL Mk II dated '09. I do have 1905 dated Mk I (No. 1 Mk I) primers in other cases, so I should swap one over.

The Ordnance Committee List of Changes indicate that 13/18 pdr guns/ammunition were approved in 1904, but introduced in 1905? I've certainly not seen a 1904 dated case, shell or fuze, so I'd be interested to know if anyone had one as they must have been used during development.

On this fuze I have the early Mk II fuze cover also dated 1905. I believe these were soldered to the rebate on the brass fuze socket (adapter) for Mk's I-III (all aluminium) No. 80 fuzes. Early handbooks say to "tear off the tin band" to remove cover so they must have a tear off band similar to the later covers? The later covers were soldered to the bottom deck of the fuze itself though not the adapter. Would love to see a complete one if anyone has one.

Graeme
