It's interesting that the grenade shown is the No.23 Mk III rather than the No.36. The Dutch clearly didn't want to use a Burn cup. Perhaps it didn't fit their rifle??

The No.23III was supplied to a number of countries (Belgium*, Netherlands, Latvia) after the Great War as a hand grenade. At the end of the war there were millions of No.23III surplus in France and Flanders, and in consequence of British War Office munitions policy thereafter, it made sense to sell off cheaply than dump in the North Sea or in the Channel.

Neither the Adams cup for the No.23, nor the Smith Burn cup for the No.36, fitted the Belgian Mauser and whatever rifles the Netherlands (Mannlicher?) and Latvia (Mauser?) used.

*Belgium was supplied with Mills grenades from 1916.
