400 Gram Schü mine

Does anyone know of any actual pictures of a 400 Gram Schü mine? There are plenty of pictures of the Schü mine 42 but I can't seem to find any pictures of other Schü mines.
Any help would be appreciated.

Mike

I made a replica, it takes 2x 200 gram charges, more like a small box mine.

aa - 1.jpgThis is photo of my Schü mine 42, that I have had for years. I made the 200 Gram explosive block. I assume two of these blocks would go into the 400 gram mine.

Here are some pictures of the 400gram box mine. Quite a simple device that takes two 200 gram charges.

More pictures, in the lid there is a forked block of wood that rests on the Z42 igniter. The nail acts as a safety pin which is removed after laying. A smaller nail also acts as to controlled weight that sets it off. The back charge is positioned up right to the front charge that lays flat, the wood block supports the igniter and the charge it screws into from moving, tilting down. The back charges are raised on a slither of wood, not sure why but that how it is made. The wooden support block is meant to be nailed in place but its impossible to set the mine or dismantle it to make safe.
The mine can be found in German Mine Warfare Equipment TM 5-223C along with the other wooden block mines which take the round tubular 100 gram charges both ignited with chemical or Z42 igniter. on page 136 etc.

I dont want to criticize your work here BMG as i know your very knowledgeable, my example i used too own had the insides of the lid shaved into a point so as to aid it going down when buried in soil,,,,,,,,,Dave

I looked at example and all the pictures i could find but didn't see the sides shaved. I did ask quite a while back when i was doing my research on this particular mine and the smaller 100gram wooden box mines, these smaller mines did have chamfered side. I suppose it depends how they were used ie not buried but placed under something like a plank etc. Thanks for letting me know, i will make a note on that and look again.
Although the theory of shave sides would be a wise step when building a box mine, i wondered if it made any difference especially if the soil is lightly covered over the mine. I don't thing you would want to pack down dirt around and on top of a mine to hard if you see what i mean.

I have a wooden mine, that I believe is Russian, and it has the sides shaved down, but not to a sharp edge. I've seen multiple shu style mines with tapered down sides.

The picture of my Schü mine 42, pictured earlier, does have the outside of the lid shaved to a point as you described, but the outside. Not sure how you could shave the insides of lid and not have opened corners.

The picture i had of an original and the TM German mine manual showed the sides not tapered down, 100 or 200gram charge was enough to seriously injure take a foot or leg off a larger charge would have blown the wheel off a light vehicle. The mine is very similar to a Soviet mine type. It was used on paths and trails and laid in deep grass uncovered or covered in foliage leaves etc not always buried. Personally i don't think shaving the sides would hinder the lid closing down as the weight of a man with heavy backpack or carrying equipment would overcome dirt or small stone from preventing the lid closing. Shaved sides are not seem on larger box mines types plus those setting the trap will make sure nothing hinders the functioning of the mine. You certainly wouldn't lay this mine on stoney ground or a beach, you would used something else most probably.

Can you tell me what you covered your 20 gram charges with, waxed paper? If so what brand was it. I want to make up some charges.

Thank
Mike
