This pistol plug is marked: No38-1 4-41 S M P . (Who is SMP)?
It it made of some zinc alloy? and the top hole is threaded. I had not seen one before and guess bombs were plugged.
The brass pistol for comparison is a No30 1V 44 made by William Suckling & Sons, Birmingham.(monogram).
Thanks for the ID. It looked like a plug but very complicated construction. My first nose pistol. I thought when fired that the pistol would have damaged nose and threads.
It was found on a firing/practice area near Townsville, Queensland with lots of artillery fuze plugs and 4.5" smoke projectile bases.
