Hello,
This lovely crate just arrived from a seller in France and was listed as a German WW1 box for 10cm K14 shell cases. Its in pretty good shape for its age and has feint stencilling on the lid.

My questions are:
Has anyone seen one of this type before?
The stencilling reads: Hulsenkart d 10cm k14. Can anyone translate the 'Hulsenkart' please. My German is average but I can't find a literal translation. I'm guessing an abbreviation of 'Shell cartridge'?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

Hi Starshell
Yes "Hulskart." stands for "Hülsenkartuschen" which mean "case", and yes that's a very nice box holding 2 cases, you are only missing the wooden inserts designed to secure the cases.

...and the name "Hülsenkartuschen" or "Kartuschhülsen" means that it was separately loaded

Thanks very much doppz92 and Alpini,
That was just what I was looking for.
Much appreciated.
