Hello,
Looking for info on the use of AN Mk-1 1600 Lbs. and AN MK-33 1000 Lbs. armour piercing bombs.
Hoping that forum members can help find some.

Specifically:
- were these deployed in ETO during WW2?
- did Typhoon/Tempest deploy these bombs? (ANMk-33 manual mentions British suspension lugs).
- untill when were they used? (A 1955 manual found online still mentions them).
- were any deployed during the Korean war?
- were they carried by the A1 (Skyraider) ..and, when so, did A1's deploy them during the Korean war?

In advance, thanks very much!

As a matter of fact there are photographs in the IWM collection of such a bomb (1600lb AP AN Mk1) being loaded under a RN Barracuda from HMS Furious before one of the attacks on the Tirpitz:

According to Skyraider, in the Standard Aircraft Characteristics for AD-5 Skyraider from 1956 (available on http://alternatewars.com/SAC/SAC.htm webpage) in Ordnance the 1600 lb bombs are mentioned. And probably there was no other 1600 lb than AN-Mk.1 (except Mk.7 nuke, but such things are mentioned separately as Misc. Stores)

Hey Speedy,
Thanks, great info! The other "chapters" on the A1 are less specific but do give max. load weight capacity for the specific wing and centerline stations. So with the 1600 Lbs verified as "in use" in 1956, that at least would seem to indicate the AN Mk-33 may have been part of it's payload as well.

The problem is that, whether there is mention of the 1600lbs AP AN-Mk1 as an alternative ordnance load for a number of planes, there are no photographs of such a bomb being loaded in these aircrafts.
Look for instance at these:

To these, you can add the SB2C Helldiver, the B-17, B-24 and B-29.
However, till now, I have been unable to find mention of this bomb in operational records except for the following instances:
For the B-24 there is a definitive report from operational records of the 93rd Bomb Group that they used it on their raid on Lorient 30 December 1942.
Similarly, the SBD Dauntless and TBD/TBF Avengers from the Essex at some point in 1942 and of the Enterprise in October 1943 did carry such a bomb in some of their actions.
