Hello,
What means BLACK horizontal strip on HE shells ?
Same meaning depending on position (top, middle, bottom) ?

1 - There’s potentially two explanations – 1, the projectile is not fitted with a smoke box. 2, it is Explodered for use with an igniferous fuze. However, as it is fitted with what appears to be a No. 106 fuze, which is not an igniferous fuze, it must be the 1st option. (Additionally, in the first instance it is described as a black tip, whereas the second is described as a black ring.)

2 – Filled T.N.T.

3 – H.E. Drill and it appears that there is a vertical black stripe indicating that the projectile is fitted with an economy driving band.

4 – CORRECTION - On a gun projectile - a gun and howitzer of the same calibre exist. The shell is suitable for the gun.
