IWW, a Scottish soldier hides from persuing Germans in a lunatic asylum and inadvertently releases patients into an abandoned French town that Germans are trying to blow up https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060908/. The patients assume the jobs their minds tell them to do with some crazy results. This French-Italian co-production propelled several actors into stardom, and represents some of the best in 1960's European comic cinema cooperation.

One of the greatest movies I've ever seen, with a plethora of the greatest French actors of the 1960s - Brasseur, Brialy, Bujold together with Alan Bates in his best ever role.
Beyond the comedy, a deeply poetic satyr of the tragedy of WW1.
Highly recommended.
