1943, a young Jewish boy is sent by his Parisian parents to live with an old Catholic couple in the deep French country side to be safe https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063771/. He has to conceal his Jewish origins because the old man is not fond of Jews. What comes out of it is a wonderful story of love and survival. Michel Simon (a veteran Swiss actor with a very interesting real life story) shines as the old man but the supporting cast is all great too. This black&white movie must be one of the jewels of post IIWW European comedy, very gently blending humour with dark war reality. The movie almost watches like Alice in Wonderland at times.
Oh, yeah, it is a Claude Berri movie!!!

Michel Simon in his greatest role - an apotheosis at at time when all thought his career was behind him. He gave there the most magnificent display of his talent.
A really great classical movie of the French "Seventh Art". After the unforgettable "Jeux Interdits" ("Forbidden Games" ,1952), the only other French movie that dared to focus on the drama of children and war - and to do so in a very successful way.
