Not The Gramophone Company of Hayes Middlesex, but another one - Garrard Engineering and Manufacturing Co., Swindon.
The attached is an image of a Garrard Engineering No.36 grenade - a common grenade from a not-so-common maker. Ordered in July 1940 in the post-Dunkirk flurry of activity, Garrard received a contract (294/G/5545) for 50,000, subsequently increased to 75,000, and delivered by October 1940.
Garrard Engineering had an interesting history of an association with Garrard and Co., the Crown Jewellers till 1945, and post-WWII as the designer and manufacturer of the very top-end Garrard record decks. Some BOCN members might have listened to a Garrard 301 - or even owned one in the day.
