Quoted from a friend , I might guess that this or similar might have been used in Canada for inter shipment
of cases from manufacturer to assembly and filling, but no examples are known as far as I am aware.

"In early 1915, the first ammunitions factories of Canada were

only able to draw 18 Pr Cartridge cases and those were in so great need
by british artillery that they sent all the early batch of case in wooden boxes.
This box had been loaded afterward with Lewis-gun "pans" and sent to the battle front !
This box can be seen in Tommy Café at Pozières in the Somme Battlefield near the town of ALBERT; "
