Been having a chat with a forum member about 3inch 20cwt cases Mk11 and MkV, the Mk11 inquestion date is 1916 and the MkV 1938. I know that the 3inch 20cwt was used as a AA round during the first Blitz during WW1 and also as a Naval round on ships as well most probably after 1945. What would be the differences in the case Mks. Were WW1 cases refurbished and used during WW2.

I have not seen a 3" 20 CWT case converted to a 77mm but I have a 77mm converted case.
It seems that the A/S Mortar Mk10 may have accounted for many 3"20 Cwt cases when converted by TRE (RNAD Trecwn, Pembrokeshire, Wales.)

I have 77MM 1 1948 ECC case converted to A/S Mk10 Mortar Type D by TRE in 1956. This is not what you ask for .
I have 3" 20 CWT V case converted to A/S Mortar Mk10 Type D ICI 1938 case by TRE 1952 cancelled 3/62.
Also one with so many loads, 3" 20CWT V 1935 RL case Reloaded by TRE dates 1953,1952, 3/62 and 5/60.

My 77mm cases noted are: ( I only have the ECC 1948 case).
ECC 1948
RLB 1942
VAEL 1942 and 1945.

All these case conversions would account for any lack of available cases, but still often found in Australia.

I have an A/S MARK10 MORTAR case MK2 dated 1959 that is not a converted case.

Most A/S Mk 10 Mortar cases (87x305R) I find are new cases by MF in 1957, 1959 also I have ECC 1955 by TRE 1959.
Not all cases were converted ones.
