73 x 213R - Any ideas

Well-Known Member
Any ideas on what this case may be? N may be for Nordenfeldt. May also have its origins from the Anglo Boer War era. My guess is that it is pre 1900. N is the only head stamp. Case is not cut and has three crimp marks in neck.

Calibre: 73 mm

Case Length: 213 mm

Rim: 86 mm

Your thoughts are welcome. I can't find in any of my reference books.

Your case looks like an unfinished 75x212R Maxim-Nordenfelt case that was purchased by Argentine Navy 1898 ? Quick-fire landing gun.
I have a similar case and posted it on IAA forum in April 2018 and had an answer from Fede.
My case has the small inserted primer with the groove surround and also 3 mouth dint crimps and 86mm rim.

86mm as stated in my reply. Same as yours.
I said unfinished case because it looked like your case did not have the primer hole - or is it just plugged up?
An unfinished case would not usually have the crimps to hold the projectile of a fixed round.
