That is a great gallery of photos of the War Memorial items.
I have not visited since state school in 1961. Makes me feel old now. Maybe that is why my muscles ache when I mow the lawns.
I guess the Jap mini sub remains are still outside.
Hard to believe it was that long ago. Maybe I am getting older??

@Vlad - sorry which photo? (I have been editing and re-arranging the photos since your post)
If you are after further details - like the descriptions, then unfortunately not.

@Ron - Unfortunately the Japanese midget sub is being restored at the AWM Mitchell Storage facility, which is only opened to the public once a year. (Have been wanting to get here as they have a number of torpedoes in storage, which are never on display)

Speaking of torpedoes - what's wrong with the German Schwarzkoft torpedo pistol???

Hi Minen,

Unfortunately no ideas!

One short-coming is that some group displays have only an overall description and are missing the actual objects details - please see examples below of the items in question. I'm assuming the first was a mortar projectile /bomb from the underlying small trench mortar beneath it? Further you can see that there is just a general reference to grenades - no details.

Cheers
Drew
BTW - I used the AWM "EPLORE" function to re-check

That Centurion tank barrel story from Nam goes against everything I have been taught about guns. I was told NEVER to shoot a gun with obstructed barrel.

Hi Vlad,
Absolutely correct - the potential for a blow-back would be lethal - in a nutshell the expanding pressure has to go somewhere - meaning the least path of resistance, which could easily be back through the breach.
In this instance, the barrel was "bent" by the impact from the RPG - how would a solid shot round unbend the barrel??? (I would have thought it would have got stuck resulting in a blow-back scenario...............)
I'm wondering under "battle conditions" this would be deem last resort? (sitting ducks anyway!)
Cheers
Drew

It's a replacement/dummy - there are no holes for the safety pin, or slots for the striker vanes.
Cheers

The Centurion story is interesting. Perhaps when they said the barrel was bent they actually meant the muzzle brake was hit a skewed off to one side. Maybe then an AP round might just blow it away. Did the Centurion have an AP round or only APDS for the defeat of armour ?

I looked at the photos of Centurions online and could not find any muzzle brakes. Muzzle brake is the best weakest point to bend by RPG. So it probably got blown away, as flak18 said.
