Bofors Primer

I think it was to facilitate the re-use of a fired case - the early 'large' primer was probably too expensive to replace, but the No. 12 was standard issue. Depotman
 
seem to remember a long ago post on the adaptor, but memory not what it was so could be mistaken.
 
Yes this adapter allowed the use of the No. 12 primer in the earlier Mk I cases instead of the large No. 18 primers that were no longer produced. The Mk I case had to be converted to a Mk I* by slightly enlarging the hole in the case to allow the No. 12 igniter to pass through. The No. 12 primer was also used in 2Pr No. II cases (tank/anti-tank), so there were economies in rationalising the primers produced.
