Information on the 10cm Nebelwerfer 40:
Few examples of the 10cm Nb 40 ever saw service with the Nebeltruppen for it entired service in 1940 just as the units for which it was intented were changing over to rocket equipments. It was very complex and featured a complicatedbreech loading mechanism not unlike that used on the 7.5cm leIG18. The main asset of the Nb 40 was its range of up to 6350m when firing HE, but its primary purpose was firing smoke and chemical rounds. These rounds were propelled using a short cartridge case loaded with a primary charge and up to three auxiliary charges.

Calibre: 100 mm

Bore Length: 1720 mm

Weight in action: 800 Kg

Elevation: 45 to 84

Muzzle velocity: 310 mps

Minimum range: 500 m

Maximum range: 6350 m

Bomb weight: (HE) 8.6 Kg

Bomb weight: (smoke) 8.9 Kg

Interesting item here, first time i saw such little box for charge. Seems like it has been fixated with clip which is drag out a little, i think it goes around the tail section, is it possible? There is a marking Zusatzladung 10cm Nb. W. on the lid.

In the little box were some extra loads to expand the effective shooting range. They were placed on the tail. Most country's had them.

UK 3 inch and 4.2 inch mortar
GER for instance 8 cm Wgr and 10 cm Wgr

Thank you DM for the answere. Do you have any pictures of 8 cm extra loads were placed on the tail?

And continuing of this thread with Nb.W 40 cartridge cases. All items of this calibre are very rare as i have seen. Here are some views of a short cartridge case with the original markings.

8 cm extra charges were packed in thin, round steel tins which were ( 3 pcs ) in each mortar shell transit box. Necessary number of loose charge bags then was wrapped around the mortar tail.

Know that. Maybe my misunderstanding, question means, is there 8 cm Wgr have had a same steel box fixed on the tail. Never seen.

Some of 8 cm extra charges in my collection.

They were painted green and red if I am right.
But when were they painted one of these colours? I believe red is the most common colour used.
Or did they also had other colours?

German manual shows that colors were:
10cm Wgr 35 Spr(HE-grenade) -> Green
10cm Wgr 35 Nb(Smoke) -> Red
10cm Wgr 35 Nb S -> Green

10cm Wgr 40 Spr(HE-grenade) -> Green
10cm Wgr 40 Nb(Smoke) -> Green

10cm Wgr 40 Spr le HT(HE-grenade) -> Green
10cm Wgr 40 Nb le HT(Smoke) -> Green
10cm Wgr 40 w Kh Nb le HT(Smoke) -> Green
