Postwar CE Primers

The container is identical in dimensions to the wartime pattern, and appears to be dated 1961 but it is partly obscured. The primer is an issue beeswax dummy. The fibreboard base of the carrier is marked " CY 1958".

CY is the monogram for Royal Ordnance Factory, Chorley. Chorley was (it has only recently closed) a filling factory and was a one time one of the largest Ordnance factories in the UK. During WWII it employed in excess of 25,000 people (albeit they were on shifts, but nevertheless a very large establishment).
