    Ballistite Cartridge 5.56mm L1A1

Here is some info on the British Ballistite cartridge L1A1, used to launch some rifle grenades, L60A1 and L87A1, both inert practice grenades and for line throwing. Practice grenades with booster and HE rifle grenades are launched with ball rounds.

27 The Cartridge Case for Ballistite Cartridges is formed from drawn brass. The
case is necked, of rimless design and is closed by crimping the mouth. A waterproof
sealant is also applied to the internal and external surfaces of the mouth.
28 Ballistite Cartridges 5.56 mm are In-Service for use either as the means of
propulsion for Rifle Launched Grenades (RLG) or as a Line Thrower.
29 The Cartridge Ballistite 5.56 mm L1A1 (see Fig 3) is filled with 1.5 g of Propellant
SMP 945. Ignition is by the Boxer principle using a Percussion Cap (Primer No. 41)
filled with 0.025 g of Composition FA 956.
