Pictures taken at the RAF museum Hendon of the german SD1400X Guided bomb , first sucess was the Battleship Roma

Was this bomb the same as a Henschel HS293?,i always thought that the Roma was the first victim of the HS?

Hi Paul i put the wrong designation it should have read SD1400X not FX now modified,I can confirm in 1943 the Italian battleship Roma was sunk with one of these bombs also HMS Warspite .

What publication did the color plate come from?

Great painting, I wonder if the artist did more? One of the Guided bombs was located at the BD school at American University. We have photos of it being shipped back to the states from France. It is now located at Eglin Air Force Base where our EOD school is now located. Or I hope it is there!

Does anyone have dimensions of the tail fins for this bomb?
A friend has one which he is in the process of fixing up and as always the fins are the first things to rust away.
