SD2A Butterfly.

Well-Known Member
Hear is my butterfly, sporting its new colour scheme.
Recovered from Grimsby as part of a school boys
schrapnel collection in 1941.

With the addition of a new fuse and charge the butterfly
looks as deadly as the day it dropped.

I have the gaine attached to the fuse but what i meant was the main charge (bomb body).

TTFN satan

Ok,ive taken a few snaps of the ones i have.
Im afraid they are in `pre-clean` condition but they are on the long list of `to-does`:xd:

There are a different set of wings included in front of the complete ones,i also have some more fuzes for the SD2`s not pictured.
The close up of the left hand one shows the correct 41A bayonet type fuze i believe correct for the body type?

cheers

A few more showing some of the gaine pots too.
They are pictured on the shelf and the last shot is when they are in the `room`up in top corner.
Thats certainly changed since that shot in members collection!

I hope you enjoy the pics and please give me any good tips for cleaning them up.

cheers and best

Hi Paul the 3 rd picture whats the markings just visable in the picture on the bomb body? please

Well Waff
What a nice brace of butterflys.
To Clean or not to clean?

My one was red rust with only faint traces of original paint left, which gave me a good pattern to copy.
If any of yours are pretty good for colour then i would feel inclined to leave as they are,but the choice is yours.

Normal bench mounted wire wheel and a small dremmel type tool for detailing should do the trick.

Enjoy satan

Thank you squire!
I was thinking of just a clean up of the rusty bits i suppose rather than a full hit.
ive never been sure if they are original paint you see?
Still,if i can get rid of some of that rust and gack then its an improvement.
Fuzeman, what do you know about those weird shaped wings on the second body pictured please?

Very nice but do those wings still have moveable parts or are they `frozen`?
btw,
Do not even think of de-activating SD2`s
cheers

THIS ACTIVITY IS NOT APPROPRIATE TO THIS FORUM - THIS IS AN INERT COLLECTORS AND INTEREST SITE NOT A DEMIL OF MANUAL TECHNIQUES Q&A. The post has been removed for obvious reasons...

Just a couple more shots of a butterfly bomb. All INERT of course.
