    2.25" Practice Rocket

I picked this up at a local flea market for $50.

It is a WW2 era U.S. navy 2.25 inch practice rocket. These duplicated the flight characteristices of the 3.5 inch or 5.0 inch rockets mounted under the wings of some aircraft (especially the F4U Corsair) for attacking ground targets.

The marking on the nose (in it's entirety) is

    "
    2.25 BODY MK.-3 MOD. 2 DWG 439208 LOF"

It is 29" long and appears to be made of steel throughout.

According to some information I have gathered, the fins were black and the body white or grey. Would you restore it?

    2.25" scar

    Hi Birdseye,

    Nice example and nice price.
    Some info from TM9-1950.
If its tidy condition i'd be tempted to just leave as is.
Have seen one of these with red head and white body(undercoat colour was dk/green)

    Cheers Bob

    Hi Birdseye,
You have nothing to loose by restoring it. There doesnt appear to be any corrosion present so it may have the original colours underneath the new paint. Try stripping the top layer of paint and you may reveal the original paint underneath.
    Cheers
